Solar Mobile Charger


Solar mobile Charger is a device by which u can charger your mobile phone using Sunlight. This is a easy to make Solar Mobile charger which you can make at home without any Problem. There are make Solar mobile chargers on the net there but they all lack a few things which I am going to cover in this Topic here. I have included a Voltage regulator IC (LM317).It regulates the Voltage given to the Phone. SO even if the Voltage produce by the solar panel is 3V you can still charge your mobile phones.
Lets begin

Apparatus:

1.      4 Mini Solar Panels (3V 20mA each)
2.      IC Lm317
3.      Resistors (720ohm,240ohm)
4.      A mobile charger
5.      Connecting wires
6.      Soldering Iron
7.      Flux
8.      Solder
9.      2 Capacitors(1uF,0.1 uF)

Step 1.

First you need to connect 2  Solar panels in parallel. This will give you a higher current ratings, then do the same with the other 2 panels. This will give you 2 modules.

Step 2.

Connect those 2 modules in series with each other. This will give you a higher Voltage supplying capacity.
(Instead of using four different Solar panels you can us only one Solar panel of higher ratings, But it should be able to supply at least 3V. Use the solar panel of rating 4V or higher that should not cause any problem even in darker areas)

Step3.

Connect the Solar panel with the Voltage regulator (Lm 317) Configured to give 5V.The connections are shown in the figure 1. To can see more about the Voltage regulator here.

Step4.

Cut the Wire of the Mobile charger. Connect the red end of the wire to the positive of our circuit and the black end to the negative of our circuit.


Step 5.

Time to test your charger. Take your charger out in the sunlight and the charger to your phone and you will see that your phone is charging. :)
